What A Weekend

To say I'm glad this weekend is over, would be an understatement.  I've been stressing over it for a while.  The anticipation of not knowing what to expect and having a small baby in the mix, made it impossible to predict.  To say it came off without a hitch, would be a lie.  It had some tense moments.

Dance Recital all weekend!

Rehearsal on Friday, was LONG.  Thank goodness it didn't involve costume changes.

Saturday's performance went fairly well, and the baby was fairly cooperative.  Plus, there were less costume changes and my daughter was able to join us in the audience, after each change.  We sat where we could make a quick getaway, in case it became necessary, which it did.  However, I was able to stand near the exit and didn't miss anything important.

Sunday started off on the wrong foot.  First of all, it started earlier and involved waking up earlier and getting ready earlier.  I don't do early well at all.  I was still exhausted from the night before.  Twinkle Toes had to be there an hour early, which meant we did, too.  Saturday, my daughter pumped a bottle, so we would have milk for the baby.  They seem to require certain things, whether there is a recital, or not.  Sunday, she was extremely busy and used some she had frozen.  While it wasn't a chunk of ice-milk, it was very cold and the baby was very hungry and the hot water had been turned off for the summer.  The "Godsend" other grandmother, volunteered to unlock doors and search for a method to heat the milk.  None could be found.  God bless her for trying!  Son in law ended up taking it outside in the heat, then placing it next to his body, to get it warm enough.  All this took place in the hour prior to the show.  With a poop diaper thrown in, for good measure.

Daughter managed to get back out for a few minutes, before the show started and took the baby back to the dressing room and fed him, some.  That helped for a little while, but not nearly long enough.  I managed to keep him fairly quiet for a pretty long time, but when it started to become an issue, I gave the signal for my son in law to hop the wall and I handed the baby off and they escaped to the lobby.  After all the holding and bouncing on Saturday and cajoling, bouncing and holding, up to that point, my wall jumping days were over.  Good job, Daddy... good job!

Twinkle Toes managed to put on a great performance, even though there were some hitches on stage, as well.  To say I'm proud of her, would not be lie.  Great job, Baby!  Yes, I can call you baby... you will always be a baby to me, even if you are growing up.

I'm sorry to say, no photography was allowed, therefore, no pictures to post.  However, there will be some at a later date.

While at the recital, Tinkerbell (the youngest granddaughter) told me she wants to play soccer.  In my sweetest granny voice, I told her soccer is played outside... Granny doesn't do outside.

I ask myself, all the time, how did I ever raise four kids???  Oh, yeah... I was MUCH younger then!

I do have one picture.  That celebratory margarita, after the chaos of the weekend, was great!  My arm muscles may be a quivering mess, but I was still able to drink it, with the help of a straw.

I don't do mornings either. But if I don't get outside at least once a day, I'm not too pleasant to be around...and it's not because I forgot to put deodorant on.

I think the only way I was able to raise mine was because I was younger - there is no way I could do it all over today.

Seems like that margarita was well deserved!

Whew! After a weekend like this, the Margarita was mandatory.

How did we raise multiple children (three, in my case)? Not only were we younger at the time, we also didn't know any different. Now that we are older, and the nest has more elbow room, it takes determined effort to recapture our patience and child managing skills that were once so effortless.

I don't like it when they don't allow photos. That's so not fair!

Sounds like it was really something trying to juggle seeing the performance with baby's needs!

One thing I've never been to: a dance recital.

I'm sorry you had a bad weekend but it looks like it ended well.....a margarita is always a good way to start or finish in my world.

That was a great way to end the weekend. Whenever I'm around young kids for any length of time, I have utter respect for parents. I don't know how they keep up.

You're brave to turn the hot water off. I can never take a cold shower, not even under the sun.

Wow - you had FOUR kids?!! Kudos, lady!

Years ago they used to make bottle warmers you could plug into the cigarette lighter of your car. Don't know if they still make those - but I do know they were a God-send to me on more than one occasion while traveling (after I'd stopped nursing).

I'm exhausted just reading about your weekend. It's a painful thought...but sticking the bottle in your bra would have warmed the milk fairly quickly. At the very least it would have kept you alert!

No photography allowed?! Thats crazy.

And a poop diaper always happens at the worst moment. lol

I often see you've commented on some of the blogs I follow, so I thought I'd stop by to say hi. :-)

Sounds like an eventful weekend. I like the margarita part - I can't remember when I last had one. Thinking I'm overdue ;-)

I've always enjoyed the dance recitals; my daughter, granddaughter and great-grand. Another on the way; I hope she loves to dance. :)

Preparing for events is always a task. I make sure I'm sitting at the end so I can make a quick getaway & that I have everything I need in the trunk.its good you were able to go home without the kids later. I envy grandmas.

That margarita looks scrumptious right about now---I've been planting rose bushes and weeding flower beds all day! Ack!

Oh yes, you have to be young to raise kids. I'm old and have no patience. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending how one looks at it) I have no grandkids to be impatient with. I quite teaching Sunday School the moment I realized I'd lost those important ingredients: energy and patience.

Oh, though the thought gives me warm fuzzies sometimes, one of my biggest fears is that as soon as i get the youngest out of the house and can catch my breath the oldest is gonna drop a baby on me. Pass the margarita please.....

I laughed at this post! Although I have no children of my own, I have a niece (5) and we can't take photo's of her at school either. I wonder why, all those young memories have gone now.
I don't do mornings either, and unfortunately I don't drink alcohol.....but I know how you feel!

Wow! What a weekend, and how you do you do it with only two hands and two feet? Well done, and "rah!" for not letting a soccer brawl break out during the dance recital!

That frosty glass looks like a thick, heavy mug, almost too heavy to lift, so I am picturing you bending down to the straw and the glass never leaving the table. You did indeed have an extremely busy and active weekend. I was at the recitals, the games, and even some practice games for the grandkids for years while still in CA. Now I am in NE and so many miles from the pretty much grown grandkids. I am grateful I had the time and energy to be involved to that extent when the grandkids were small and grateful to have a different life for me and hubby now. I hope you do get a picture of Twinkle Toes in action.
