That Dreaded Word, Again!

For the past few years I keep hearing a certain word, used over and over.  This word sends me into a complete panic, hyperventilation and all.  I find myself getting sweaty, having heart palpitations and feeling like I might pass out.  What word could possibly cause that much reaction?  I'll tell you!  It's... rrrr, rrrrrr, rrrrreeeee... this is harder to say than I thought it would be!  One more try, here goes...

             ..."RETIREMENT!"

Could you feel my pain and panic?  I'm at a loss as to how to deal with it.  Hubby swears when he turns 65, he IS going to do it.  See, I couldn't even bear to use the word again.  People, he will be 65 in 18 months!  As fast as time flies, the older one gets, it will be here before I know it.  We aren't rich, by any means, but we are comfortable.  There are times in my life, however, that I have been poor.  I never, ever, want to be in that position again.  Having to decide whether to buy food, or toilet paper, is tough.  If you buy the food, you have to have the toilet paper, right?  GI, GO.  If you don't buy the food, you won't need the TP, but you starve.  See what I mean?  I'm not a food freak, but to not have the option to eat, might make me change my mind.  We always want what we can't have.

One of THE toughest issues we will face, when this time comes, will be MY health insurance.  It's the one thing that has managed to forestall the inevitable, as long as it has.  He would have made the decision before now, had it not been for the exorbitant cost to keep me covered.  Getting rid of me would be so much cheaper.  He might even be able to actually enjoy his rrr... rrrreee... TIME OFF FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR!  I could even forgive him if he did, but for now... this is how the whole idea, makes me feel...

...it is NOT a good feeling!  How would you like to live with this?  Trust me, you don't even want to imagine it!   I must go lie down now, I'm feeling faint.  Is there a doctor in the house?  Somebody call 911!  Wait...
never mind, "WE CAN'T AFFORD IT!"

My recent 'popping of pills' is making me more appreciative of the health insurance that I have through my job.

Medicare?

When you mentionned the food/tp/starve, I had to laugh because I would be like, "Well at least I will lose a little weight!"

My daughter (2 yr old) wears glasses and has been for over a year. It costs over $400 for a visit to the eye doctor which she needs every 4 months, however - she SCREAMS the entire visit and they can't check her properly, so it is a GIANT waste of $$$$

We totally should not have to pay if they can't see her.

She was supposed to go in in January, but I am waiting until late Spring. I am hoping she is older and isn't so scared so it isn't a waste of time and money.

She really needs a good visit - they think she needs bi-focals - uf-da!

She is severly far-sighted.

Blasé, appreciate it to the MAX! And thank your Lucky Stars and Capt'n Crunch, you have it!

Girl, I won't qualify for medicare for a few more years, I just look old.

My little sister had the vision issues. She was thrilled to reach the age to wear contacts. (She had Tri-focals, I think) Her glasses got so heavy. Several years ago, she had eye surgery to correct her vision. (at least that's correctable) Now if they would just find a way to correct old age, we'd both be in business!

Love the pic but I don't think it will scare retirement away, it's too cute, lol

Hell, I'm looking forward to retirement! Only 30 years, 4 months, 8 days, 5 hours and 40 mins to go... sigh...

LOL, the captcha thingy for my comment was 'HYDRY', I think that was the universe laughing at my retirement plans. =(

Kristy, I think it was the universe laughing at my retirement plans! (Grrrrrrrrrrr!) Plan now, it gets here faster than you realize.

I know... I'm planning and the numbers never seem to satisfy me. According to one of those calculator thingys I need $2M to retire, but I don't see myself being able to amass that amount of money! Who can do that? Then I watch Suze Orman and she seems happy if people have $500k, sometimes $250k. I don't get it.

What? This will be glorious for you and the Mr. It will mean sleeping in late, long walks and candlelight suppers followed by running through the house naked with no cares for the next day. Well, except the no toilet paper thing.

Ms. A said...

Marla, you're joking, right? I can already sleep as late as I want and run around the house naked. (nobody notices) As far as candlelight suppers... I can pretty much guarantee there will be candlelight... we won't be able to afford the electric bill! Just not the supper, cause we can't afford that, either. So, I guess there will be no need for the toilet paper!

Kristy, sweetie... we didn't GET IT, either!

BAHAHA this was such a funny post. If your husbands going to be 65, how old are you? You look like no older than 40 in that pic....and even that's pushing it.

Ms. A said...

Ian, have I told you lately that I love you? By the way, I'll bet your eyes are brown... To answer your question, hubby is 63 and I'm not... yet. (but I'm closer to 63, than 40, grrrr)

Ah, I am looking forward to retirement more than you can imagine...I am hoping to do so in about 7 years. Things will be tight, but I think I can handle it.
I am tired of working, I don't like my job, and I want out of the stress.

Joe, all I can say is we better have a second computer by then, or one of us might get hurt!

As a young girl, I too experienced the dilemna of not enough money and Ms. A, I have a phobia of going there again.

VKT, Thanks for dropping in and acknowledging my panic. I love having validation that I'm not the only one that finds this prospect scary.
