Since I am already grieving human losses and find this tragic despite it being "nature's way" I must comment, Ms. A, on you telling a story of such magnitude in two subtle, heartrending photographs. My mentor was a staff photographer for NEWSWEEK decades ago. He used to say "Anyone can take a picture. Not everyone can take a good one." He was a documentary photographer who would have found in this everything he tried to teach me and do in his own photojournalistic storytelling: too poignant for words, but invites tears. Look how far you've come.
That is SO sad..... Hope you didn't see the hawk get him... Doves are favorite meals of Hawks... We have Doves here --and I am always afraid that they won't live very long...
unfortunately, these poor things always seem to have reason to mourn. Around here it's house cats, wild cats, and raptors. The mourning doves are such easy prey.

That makes me so sad! Mourning doves are pretty much idiots, but that's precisely why I adore them so much!
Whatever got that bird has to eat, too ... it's just difficult to think about it sometimes.

awww! yup, they are easy grabs for most hawks. bless 'em.
They just don't move quickly enough to escape predators.:-(
Oh, no! I know it's part of nature's cycle, but still...
Doves are among my least favorite birds. I'm pulling for the hawk every time.
Oh- ouch! Not my favorite birds either, but would rather chase them off then see this happen :)
Doesn't matter to me what kind of bird, it still hurts to see. :(

Unfortunately we, too, find aftermaths like this around our house. The hawks in the neighborhood think doves make a tasty meal.

Maybe a hawk. Just as likely a feral or free range domestic cat. If so time to get the traps out. And solve the problem.
