An Oops, Update And An Uh Oh

The oops is to anyone that was hit with spam when my email was hacked.  I'm so sorry.  I think everything is okay now.

The update... Michael is doing well!  After the last update about the two good days, he had to get shocked again.  That was on Monday.  He did great with it this time and they were able to get a good sinus rhythm.  Shortly after, he ate a full meal and has been doing darn good since.  He was transferred to a different floor and is no longer in an ICU.  The room has doors and walls and a real bathroom, with a door.  (no longer a prison toilet)  All drains and IVs are removed and he is free to move around without the tethers that were such a hindrance.  Most people leave this floor and go to the rehabilitation floor.  They think he is in such good shape, he won't need to go to rehab.

Now comes the uh oh.  They are talking about letting him go homeWe're scared to death to be responsible for taking care of him, out of a hospital environment, where there are nurses and doctors available around the clock! Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and wish us good luck.  We're going to need it!

I hope to get back to regular reading and responding in the next week, or so.  I miss you all!

Sounds scary but I'm sure they wouldn't allow him back home unless they were confident he was okay. My prayers are with you all.

Such good news! So glad he is doing better. I hope he continues to improve each day and will be home soon. Don't worry about his after care, they won't let him go until he's ready.

It might be and uh oh but still great news! May he be home soon! You'll be surprise how much better he'll get being home, sleeping in his own bed, being around his own things. It really is great for the soul.

This is good news! Will there be some help available from medical personnel when he is discharged?

Yes, I had one of those "spam" things in my email. I knew that was not like you, and I just deleted it.

That is wonderful news - and you will be fine in caring for him, I just know it.

Yeah, I figured your email was hacked, but like Karen, I didn't want to give you anymore bad news or bother you.

You and your son are never far from my thoughts.

Glad to read the good news about his impending homecoming.

Home is the best place for him to heal. I am sure he couldn't be in more loving hands then with you and the rest of the family.

Prayers and hugs.

Oh Ms. A, I thought the hack was just comedy from Heaven after all the Hell you've been through! His recovery sounds simply extraordinary and I understand how nervous his coming home may feel, they wouldn't let him if he wasn't ready. We will all keep praying for you and would you consider a photo essay on his leaving and coming home for us? We have all felt so close and in love with your family, this is really one for the Prayer is for REAL! record books...God Bless and may he grow stronger day by day as you realize just how strong you have all been, as well! Congratulations!

I'm glad to hear that Michael is doing so well. I can understand why you would be nervous or concerned about being able to properly take care of Michael, but I'm sure you will do fine.

I am happy you had good news for us!! Keeping fingers crossed for continued improvement. ((hugs))

That is awesome news!!!

The best advice I can give you for when he comes home is: ask him how you can help and let him help himself if he thinks he can. The worst thing you can do is treat him like an invalid. It'll frustrate you and irritate him. BELIEVE ME. lol!

I can so relate to your fears. Even though I've taken classes I'm still a nervous wreck every time I have to flush Reid's lumens and do a bandage change. I'll be so glad when that all is over and done with. I've actually done it with both stem cell transplants so you'd think I'd be comfortable with it by now. Remember, help is close by. The one time I had to call 9-1-1 they were there in less than five minutes which was really reassuring to me. You'll do just fine. Yes, you'll be nervous but that's only natural. Reid sometimes reminds me to take a deep breath. It helps! I think it would be so much easier to take care of a perfect stranger without any emotional attachment, but we have no choice. Our sons need us so we do our best. You will do just fine!!! I know it.

I've spent many times in the ICU and it was always SO frightening when I'd be released to go home. Once I was only home for two hours before I was back in ICU.

It IS scary!!! So just know that your fears are totally understandable. Too many people will say "It will be okay." And, IT WILL. But we need to have our fears acknowledged.

Good news! I'll bet he'll continue to improve in a home environment.

That's good news! I'm sure it is scary, but they wouldn't let him go home if it wasn't okay to do so. Hang in there!

I'm so glad to see that your son is doing better! It IS scary to bring them home after so much has happened ; now is the time to be speaking with the hospital social worker (or equivalent) to see what services might be available at home and if there is insurance...or other...avenues of helping with costs. Get as much in writing as you can and get names and numbers you can contact if you need help.

All of you are in my prayers and thoughts and I'm sending a ton of gentle hugs.
