They weren't fooling around about it, either. They had really good beak-eye coordination. On the rare occasion the bread would hit the water, they would nearly sink the ducks, trying to get to it first.
I was already out of the car with my longer lens and was almost too close to be able to shoot these... hubby was so close he got shat on. Big yuk and a small giggle! Shhhh, don't tell him I said that.
When we first got there, I started looking for the little platform out in the water, where I had taken some shots before. It wasn't there. Then I noticed one, in what seemed to be a different location. On first glance, it looked like someone had loaded it with white trash bags. On second glance, one of the bags looked odd. On closer inspection, it was a platform full of white pelicans, with one standing guard. Don't think I've ever seen that many in one spot.
There were several people fishing and one was kind enough to let me take a few shots. He was doing quite well, but the fish were small and he was throwing most of them back. He did have a keeper, WITH TEETH. I don't know what it was, but if it has teeth, it might as well be a piranha as far as I'm concerned. No thanks! I would not be taking that one off the hook.
I had to add a couple of cypress roots, just because I like them.

My that is a pile of pelicans. Yikes I hope your husband kept his mouth shut looking up when he got, well you know....:)
That is quite a lot of pelicans. I wonder what you call a group of pelicans. The other birds look spectacular too, and that is one fisherman who can actually say "I caught one thisssssssssss big".

We have lots of gulls in our area, they can be pretty aggressive birds. My nephew got pooped on once by a seagull on a big family outing. He was about 11 or 12---needless to say, he was not impressed, nor did he find it funny-ha ha!
Those pelicans are amazing......and the cypress! I've never seen either, but they both fascinate me.
You got some real nice shots of the fisherman too...how far away were you from him?

The cypress roots remind me of a place we used to visit when we were kids, and of course I cannot remember the name. I was always concerned that the boat would hit one of those roots. :)

Love the photos. And, well, most fish have teeth. At least the ones I've met.
One time my little brother Jim (he was about 8 at the time) was walking home from the barber shop. He'd just gotten his annual summer crewcut.
And he walked under a tree and a bird shit on his head. I could hear him yelling and swearing from about a block away.
I can still remember my mom scrubbing his head with the crewcut brush and laughing at the same time.
It was interesting, everyone else found it humorous except the recipient of the bird shit.

These seems like an awesome day out, sorry to hear that happened to your husband though haha, still seems fun all the same. I can see the appeal to cypress roots too, they look pretty cool!
Wow, you caught some goodies this trip! Those roots really are pretty neat looking, and you probably made that fella's day by showing off his spoils of teethy fish!
My dad would have adored the pelican photos, he loved those birds and had pelican photos and figurines all over the place.
Tell your hubby to buy a lottery ticket since having a bird poop on you is supposed to be lucky. Personally, I think someone who got in trouble for giggling about it made that up. ;-)
Those are really nice photos, Ms. A. I am amazed at the pelicans! I'm not sure I've ever seen any, actually. We throw any fish we catch back in the water around here. The water is too polluted to keep them.:(

You got some great photos of the gulls in flight. The pelicans on the float are interesting. I agree with you that cypress roots are beautiful and artistic.
Great photographs! If there is a least favorite bird, it would be sea gull. I detest them anywhere except at the ocean. And I don't even care much for them there.

The first fish is a speckled trout and the next fish with spots is a Red fish. Both are really tasty.:)

That was a Red Fish and it wasn't big enough to keep. When I saw that photo I thought "HOLY CRAP! That's my old boss who threatened to beat me up!"
I'm surprised just seeing a lookalike would still affect me like that.

Gulls can really be bullies! I love the white pelicans. I've always liked them but we mostly have the gray ones where I live.

WOW! What spectacular shots all around: a Wildlife Photographer hath been hatched! Loved seeing the beauty around you through the eye of your camera, since right now all we can see is R.A.I.N. But you nailed those seagulls, gorgeous humanity in the pride of that fisherman (teeth didja say?) and the pelicans - WOW! WOW!
Sea gulls: sadly, they're so hungry they've become sky rats. SO VICIOUS.
Your last photo is peaceful ... I think of how staring at it when stressed out would calm you down. The swirls of color with the stability of the wood. LOVELY.
