I'm not a crazy cat lady. The crazy part I have covered, however, I'm extreeeeemly allergic to cats. As much as I think they are adorable and I DO think they are adorable, I can't have cats. Three of my kids are also allergic and my Granddaughter has asthma.
Last Monday, in the wee hours of the morning, some jackass (pardon my language) dumped a storage tote of cats in my yard. There were at least four. I stepped outside when I heard them making racket and stomped my feet to discourage them away from my porch. One kept approaching me, meowing. I retreated inside to get a squirt bottle, to further discourage them. That's when I saw something that stopped me in my tracks. The baby. Crap, an overly adorable young kitten. Did I mention I'm allergic?
Shoot! What now? My neighbor is a cat lady, but she already has cats. She said she wouldn't let one starve if it showed up at her house, but I can't get the cats to move along and I refuse to let them starve, or shoo them away and worry myself to death over what happens to them.
Only two of them, mother and baby, are remaining glued to my front beds and porch. The other two have moved along, thank goodness. I've tried calling three no-kill shelters and they are full. Imagine that.
I CAN'T KEEP THESE CATS! Have I mentioned I'm allergic?
My neighbor, the cat lady, gave us a baggie of cat food, for safe measure. They went through that in no time. I bought a small bag of cat food! How crazy is that??? (Shoot me now) I don't want these cats to stay here, yet I'm feeding them! That's not the way to rid yourself of cats.
4:15 am, hubby is trying to get out the door to go to work. I'm trying to help by getting a scoop of food out there, so he can make it to the car without being followed and worrying about running over one of them, when the mommy cat squeezes between my legs and heads INSIDE MY HOUSE, LIKED IT OWNED THE PLACE! We were able to lure it back out by jiggling a scoop of food, but the fact it got in, is very distressing to me. Have I mentioned I'm allergic to cats?
Somebody help me, something has to be done! Should I call the SPCA? I won't call the pound, I'm pretty sure they would put them down. I hate begging and feeling desperate, but I'm desperate to find them a home with someone who can love them and touch them. They so want to be petted and loved.
I CAN'T HAVE CATS... I WON'T HAVE CATS... however, they are gorgeous!
FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD, IT'S IN MY DANG CHAIR! |

They are gorgeous.
I can sympathize. We have 4 outdoor cats my mom insists on feeding even though several sibs are allergic. Do call the SPCA and at least ask what can be done.
Good luck!
They are beautiful! If I lived around the corner, and you caught me in a weak moment, I might take them until you found them a home.
It really makes me sad and angry that someone would just dump them off like that though.
Adorable!! But the same allergies here. Try posting them on Craig's list. Couldn't hurt!! Include the part about them being dumped, cute as can be, you'd love to care but whole fam is highly allergic. Tell the story and see what comes of it. Good luck. Stock up on Benadryl in the meantime.
What sweet faces!! Keep calling until you can get someone to give you a plan of action. If the organization you call can't help you, ask them who you should talk to next and keep on down the line. Someone will gladly take a well socialized pair of cats ... it's not like they're untouchable ferals, after all. In the meantime, feed them and keep them safe, give them something washable to lay on (so your furniture isn't covered in allergens) and do your best to find them a home. Take your antihistamines and wash your hands until then.
Oh my gosh their in the house. They are adorable! I'm allergic too and we all have asthma. Hope you can find a place for them. Have you thought about putting an ad on Craigslist?
Oh, you are a sweetheart and so are they! They do need help and though I know you are reluctant to call the pound, you may have to. People are eager to adopt kittens.
They're adorable! I love cats too, and I'm slightly allergic, but I still have had 10 in my life. They're the best.
I also love how the cat is now sitting in the chair like he or she owns the place. :-)
they ARE adorable....
You could give 'em to your neighbor, but I suppose more cats would officially make her a crazy cat lady.
They really are beautiful. You know, you could get an allergy shot. Just sayin.
:-)
Oh you're so sweet in spite of how allergic you are. I wonder if you could put an ad in the paper, post a note at the grocery store, submit it to Craig's List? I don't know!
I hate to hear that someone dumped them on your yard but it would explain why they are so friendly. Here, I have a neighbor who is the crazy cat lady. She is now up to 10 indoor cats and that many outdoor cats. Though she claims that the outdoor cats aren't hers, she just feeds them and looks after them including providing them a heated water bowl for during the winter months...
Cute babies. Sometimes a vet's office might have some influence in shelters and foster homes.
Be careful about putting an ad on Craigslist for them. It's scary and disgusting, but some people looking to make "bait" out of them for their fighting dogs will respond and pretend to be all interested in them. Also - animal abusers look for ads for "free" kitties. If you're going to place an ad, make them pay. (Less likelihood of an abuser or baiter getting them because they can find the "free" ones easily enough.)
I'm disgusted that someone could be so mean and irresponsible and simply dump them on your doorstep. I'd love to kick those kind of people where the sun doesn't shine (and I'm being NICE.)
You might want to try calling a rescue organization. The other things is - most no-kill shelters will say they're "full" over the phone - but if you take them directly there and explain they were dumped, many times they will make room, or have one of their fosters pick them up.
As someone who is also allergic to cats I can sympathize with your dilemma. Momma and Baby are both cute, but I wouldn't want them in our house, either. I hope you can find someone to take these two from your house.
I sooo want a cat for my daughter... but my son is very allergic, as is one of my brothers.
ALthough... if I had a cat, he wouldn't visit... hmmm
Oh my god people are so awful! Why would you do that?
I would totally take one of them from you if I could.
Have you tried PetFinder.com? They take abandoned pets and place them in foster homes until they can be adopted. That's how I found my dog, George.
Please keep us in the loop about this. The poor little darlings!
Oh Dear, what a familiar story! My dearest friend in Muscatine, Iowa (did I mention she is not a cat person and recently adopted a badly burned terrier from a shelter and he was NOT HAPPY WHEN)a mother cat and six kittens took shelter beneath Nancy's porch! Luckily, her husband is the editor of the newspaper and I believe (not positive) but think she ran ads and screened prospective homes for quite some time before the kittens were re-homed...did I mention no one wanted the mom who now lives with her new doggie? CAN YOU SAY "MEowwww!" (P.S. Not a shelter in the MIDWEST had room for them)but in the meantime you can buy a product that will wipe off the dander in their fur that is the allergen most likely to cause suffering in between bouts of indignant insisting that you are NOT a cat person...GOOD LUCK ON THAT!
Google for "cat rescue" in your area and you'll come up with something FOR SURE. I'm also allergic and we have 4 cats! I went through two years of weekly injections to get over it. For the most part I'm okay, but I have to keep my hands away from my eyes.
Where I live, outdoor cats last about 48 hours before the coyotes get them.
Those kitties are so DARN cute!
If you go on petfinder.com, there is an area to put in your zip code, and it will pop up all the no kill rescues in the area. i took a video of my 2 kittens I was feeding that lived outdoors this summer and showed how sweet and cute they were. I emailed about 20 rescues and put a link to the video. I also said I'd donate a bit to a rescue that can help me. I got a call finally from a rescue that got the kittens fixed and their shots and is helping find them a home. Love, Lashes
I see why this was such a dilemma for you, even with allergies. They are impossibly cute. Sorry. I hope you resolved the problem by now.

I would call the SPCA and they should bring you over some really safe traps to catch them in and find them homes. :) Hopefully they find a loving home quickly!
I think he may have been speechless! (RE: Bob)
Say....have you ever considered that you might be allergic to cats?
oh you're so sweet!
those kittens are really gorgeous, i can sympathize though...
i agree with what blue violet said.
hope you'll be able to find some folks that would like to adopt them.
I would suggest you call your vet. They might be able to help you. If you don't have a vet, call the office of a local one and see if any of the staff have any idea what you can do.
nice blog (:
How heartless.
Beautiful creatures.
I get asthma around cats...how sad someone would do this.
Oh darlin' ya fed the dang critters...they're not leavin'!!!
The best advice this Ozark Farm Chick can give ya is ....borrow a big dog!!!
Good luck sweetie.
God bless from the chilly hills and hollers of the Missouri Ponderosa!!! :o)
Awww but they're so cute! Don't they have some kind of shots you can get to rid the allergy? :-)
Love the rose.
NEW FOLLOWER.

OMG> They are so dang cute! How can you not have cats after their cuteness. LOL
I'm curious what the latest status is with the cats now!
I'm very allergic too. But you can't keep the cats. We have no kill shelters in our area. You could call around and see if you have any near you. Or contact your local veterinarian. They often have requests for kittens and puppies. Good luck my friend xo
I'm pretty sure there is a place in hell for people who abandon animals... I hope you can find someone to take these sweeties.
