Bad Granny

* This is hard for me to admit, even after three weeks.*

** Pat, and any other males stumbling in, you may want to leave now. **

I was a bad granny.  I've been so traumatized by something that happened the day my daughter brought my new grandson home from the hospital, I've been beside myself.  I may have permanent damage.

My first three kids were boys.  It's not like I've never been around them, or taken care of them, it's just been a REALLY LONG TIME.  I do remember that changing their diapers is risky, if you aren't careful.  I've been christened, more than once.

My first four grandchildren are girls.  That's what I've grown accustomed to.

The traumatizing event happened during a diaper change.  I wasn't even doing the changing, for crying out loud.  Daughter and SIL were in the process and had everything laid out to do the job at hand and take care of the newly done circumcision.  Prior to pulling the diaper off, they were doing the peek thing, to see what was in store.  Everything looked fine and it was pretty hard to tell if the diaper was even wet.  No point putting him through all that, for nothing, I decided to lend my experienced hand.  Boy, did I!  I reached down and squeezed the diaper, in the front, to see if it was wet and out comes the tiniest little scream, much like a newborn kitten!!!  In a mere fraction of a second, I realized what I had done!  I thought for sure I was going to faint, or vomit, I wasn't sure which.  Forgot all about those boy bits.  Remembered quickly, but not quick enough to avoid what I had already done.  He must have thought Granny was trying to circumcise him again.

Do you think he will remember?  God, I hope not.  I don't think I did any permanent damage, but if his first words sound like Mickey Mouse... I'm headin' for the hills!

See, he looks totally fine, sleeping like a baby!

Ooops! You must have felt like a heel!!! Poor lil' kiddo. It sounds like something I would do. I only have experience with my little girl so I wouldn't think twice about possibly pinching a sore winkie!

p.s. he is a beautiful baby!!

Cute baby!

Dont worry, he wont remember a thing! When my twins were just teeny tiny I dropped the remote control on one of their heads, then a week later I actually dropped it on the other twins head. (keeping things even I guess.. lol) Luckily, they totally dont remember.

speaking as a male who has a verrrry long memory: OUCHEEE!!!!!

Granny, you are lucky he doesn't have teeth like mine. But if you give him a cookie or a treat, I'm sure it'll make everything better. Oh, that's right. He doesn't even have teeth yet. Okay, I'll take the cookie for him and I'll be sure to tell him to wag his tail next time he sees you! The Howling Hooligan

Thanks for the warning, but I had to read it anyway! Seriously though, isn't that how you check to see if the diaper is wet? That's how I do and did it. I don't recall and reaction from the baby though...
As long as we're on the subject, will I ever get to stop changing diapers?
GREAT and funny post!

Oh my. I'm certain the little guy won't remember it, but I hope you can forget it and forgive yourself too. I have yet to change a boy's diaper, so think of it this way, you just spared me and any future baby boys whose diapers I have to change (yeah, NOT) a lot of grief. I probably would have done the same thing as you did. - G

Apparently you've never witnessed the whining mess a grown man can be after waking up in the recovery room after the procedure.

It wasn't pretty.

I think it's not bad, you just provided some real funny material for his wedding toast.

Relax, he will never remember. My oldest doesn't remember the awful diaper pin stick, but I'll never forget. Oh, the guilt we must live with...

What a doll!! I am a Namy now, who does not change diapers. Well, I definitely would, but fortunately haven't ever been asked...

What an angel! I don't think he'll remember. I don't have any experience with boys but if I have Grands someday I will remember this lesson: )

Awwwwww, he'll never remember a moment of it. Besides, they get balled so many times throughout their lives. There will be far worse instances ahead. That's not a good thing, but it's true.

Even if he remembers, maybe you can place the blame on someone else. It'll be your word against theirs, after all.

Sharyn, that might work!

hee hee - well done for such a fun moment - made me laugh out loud!
I have 3 grandsons, followed by a granddaughter - my claim to fame is cleaning the said granddaughter for a diaper change of one of 'those' diapers (nappy to me - UK based LOL) with just 1 baby wipe ... daughters and daughters friends are so impressed - age and experience LOL

Grandma G, you must not be nearly as out of practice as I am.
