Trying to learn not to get excited over things. Hard for someone who scrutinizes things nine ways to Sunday. What might happen? Who will be effected? What else will this cause? Don't count your chickens, before they hatch... ripple, ripple... just the usual things that go through my mind.
Been waiting for a good while to get the MAC up to snuff, more memory, etc... AND to get my new laptop. Was supposed to get it last weekend and that went south. This weekend, my computer guru was going to be busy, so he decided to come out after working all day Thursday. He gets here around 7pm and begins opening the shipping box containing parts and whatnot, as well as my new laptop. Decides he will do that first, since it will be the easiest. Opens the box and low and behold... the laptop is WHITE! We're talking BRIGHT WHITE! Crap, I couldn't even find the coffee maker I wanted in white and we ended up having to get black. Now, you can't even see the coffee! Black, metallic, stainless steel looking everything nowadays. Had absolutely no clue this laptop would be white. White will not last 5 minutes in this house and will stick out like a sore thumb where I had intended to put it. Already, I'm not a happy camper. Next step, attach the wireless router to the modem. EEEENNH! Not happening. Seems the wireless router won't work on my thingamajig. Back in the box it goes, to be shipped back and upgraded to the higher priced one. Oh well, I've waited this long.
Next up on the agenda, the MAC. He gets out the whatchamacallit to save everything on and can't get it to start collecting my stuff. That was the next problem. Off to the store to buy a USB cord, that he didn't have with him and didn't think he would need and we didn't seem to have around here. First store didn't have one, second store did. Manages to get that show on the road. Process didn't take long, like my brain, there wasn't much in there. Opens the MAC, adds the RAM without any problem. Whew, I was sweating that one, even though he was confident. Begins transferring saved data back and it's a blur from there. Things didn't go well. Stuff started to spit, sputter and spew. Everything seemed to be in slow motion. Instillation had to be restarted. More slow motion. He's tired, I'm overly anxious. He has to go to work Friday morning and may not get any sleep at the rate things are going... or not going. Finally managed to get things on track, but my photo application isn't here. Crap! Printer has to be reinstalled. Crap, again! All the software has to be updated. Hummmmm! It's that dark cloud that seems to hang around me. Anyone that is anywhere near, will undoubtedly be effected by that cloud.
Guru left for the long drive home around 1am. Managed to update the software myself. Still don't have my printer or photo application. It will have to wait. Everything looks totally different. Must learn to get used to it. Trying to be positive...
BUT THAT LAPTOP IS STILL WHITE! I'M POSITIVE I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF A WHITE LAPTOP!

I guess painting it would be out of the question. Maybe put stickers all over it like a school kid.
Computers can be so frustrating.
Greg
White, huh? If it's been sent back, can you ask for another option?
And don't feel alone... computers are a pain in the a**, can't live without them though. Can you imagine?...
Isn't technology wonderful?
Nothing more frustrating then "high-tech" stuff that doesn't work...
A lot of Mac users, carry around the white laptop as a badge of honor...
Breathe deep! I had a white laptop for awhile and survived! Sounds like Guru and you did not exactly bond....
i have a white laptop. this june will be 2 years that i've had my white laptop. i don't know why i got the laptop in white. maybe just so it would remind me that it was entirely different than the old one that i had.... this was my first mac. i love it. even though it's white. i think you should love it and stop being so racist. ;)
sounds like a rough few days for you.
purchase the headgear and bang your head on the wall a few times.
i'm certain that'll fix everything.
Blogabber, Don't think for a minute that didn't cross my mind. That keyboard would be a real pain to paint.
Karen, Only the wireless router got sent back, not the laptop itself. (No, I can't imagine not having a computer)
Pat, I doubt there will be much carrying it around. Did I mention how white it is. I need nothing that will make me stick out, more than I already do.
Betty, Guru is a Special Angel, we are very bonded, it's the white laptop I have issues with. *inhales deeply
Ashley, I'm afraid the act of banging, even with the headgear, would throw my neck out more than it usually is, not to mention scramble the brains, even worse.
I think you should maybe get a new guru? Opening the box and unpacking all the new stuff is the best part of getting a new computer, how were you able to wait for him? You have patience!
Joe, I don't have any patience... he brought the box with him. Guru is very smart and does this kind of thing on a regular basis. He just usually isn't doing it in the evening, after a long day at work and running into cord problems and router issues. He had no way to know that ahead of time, because I was too stupid to know what to look for, to warn him in advance.
Sis, I'm stupid and picky.
I would probably like the white lap top like Ashley said due to it being completely different, but I like things different, and as for a black coffee cup you can't see the coffee but also you can't see the stains, I guess there are pros and cons to everything.
I have about the same luck with computers, I always hated after getting stuff updated that I ended up having to re load all my software.
Sure enjoyed your post.
Jimmy, Welcome! I still don't have some of my software re-loaded. It stinks being a tech idiot. If that white laptop ends up looking like the keyboard on the main MAC, it won't be white long. (and the grime on the laptop will be all mine, nobody else is going to touch that puppy)
Yeah, I'm not too keen on my white laptop either. My old one became a grayish, mauve beast towards the end.
Copyboy, Yep, exactly, the white won't last long. I really appreciate you commenting, I know you hate captcha codes and comment moderation. Thanks for suffering through it. It means a bunch to this old lady. *humming Big Red jingle
Ms. A,
You are an absolute hoot and a have a wonderful way with words! I laughed my way through this post...sorry....but you are too funny! I am glad I am following your blog now.
VKT, I'm honored to have you and thrilled if I can make someone laugh, as I blunder along. If there's one thing I'm good at, it's blundering.
Sorry you no likey... that really sucks... I wonder if they make laptop cozies?
Kristy, My Daughter mentioned that. I'll have to check into it.
Quick. Google laptop skins. You will be much happier.
Jenny, You can bet I'm going to check that out!
I hate computer stuff, I hate computer stuff. I just can not say it enough!!! They drive me nuts!!!
Girl, Me too! If someone with your intelligence hates it, I'm doomed!
I can totally identify with the beginning paragraph - I will drive myself crazy with these same characteristics one day - join me? I would just love to have a laptop at all! White would be just fine - but of course that's the envy speaking - forgive me. I live so far out in the country (it's not really that far) but I can't even get cable. Internet would have to come by way of satellite. Oh well, enjoy yours no matter the color. Hey, maybe they'll send you a pimped out chrome one with red detail!!! LOL!
Andrea, Welcome! Unfortunately, only the wireless thingy went back, not the bright white laptop.
Do you have insurance on the bright white laptop????? An unfortunate accident could send it packing for maybe a nice neutral tone :)
Bendigo, I have no idea. For what it cost, you'd think it would be part of the deal.
I have to tell you I gasped when I read that you had a computer guy show up after 7 on a Thursday - that's when my husband works on computers for his clients, after work. Then I gasped because I don't remember where you live. Then I realized, he doesn't deal with Macs. Ha ha. I hate white anything as well, but I really do want my own laptop! Maybe some day.
Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing
Ally, Gotcha! Nah, Computer Guru is my youngest son. He works in a law firm by day, and ordered my first MAC (several years ago) the new ram, and laptop, through the firm. He's the only one in the family that knows all about them. Everyone else is PC. (and there is a definite difference)
Hey....goodm orning! Come and see me! It will make you happy!
You could cover it with stickers like kids do. But that would be tacky...:)
Momma Fargo, I'm pretty tacky, but for all the money I invested, I think I'll splurge on a skin.
